Central Election Commission to Consider Appeals against Ballot Access Denial on September 3, 4

Complaints by people denied registration as parliamentary candidates will be considered by the central election commission on September 3 and 4, Mikalaj Lazavik, Secretary of the central election commission, told BelaPAN.
Thirty-seven complaints, including by Vincuk Viacorka, first deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front, and Mikalaj Statkievic, head of the founding committee for the Belarusian Social Democratic Party “Narodnaja Hramada,” have already been submitted, while more may still arrive by mail, Mr. Lazavik said.
"I believe that we'll have to consider complaints by about 40 individuals, or about half of the number of people denied registration," Mr. Lazavik said.
According to him, complaints by Minsk residents will be considered on September 4. If there are still some unconsidered appeals left, the central election commission will hold an additional meeting on September 5, Mr. Lazavik said.
Of the 365 people who applied for registration as candidate, 276 were placed on the ballot and five withdrew their applications.
