The coalition of the United Democratic Forces (UDF) brings together political parties and civil organizations. All entities of the coalition share a common goal free, independent and prosperous Belarus.
The fundamental values of the democratic forces of Belarus are Freedom and Independence. The UDF stands for fair law, liberalization of economy, preservation of social guarantees. Belarus should take an honorable place among wealthy countries of Europe.
All of this is not possible without free elections. According to independent counts, in 2006 the single presidential candidate of the united democratic forces Alaksandar Milinkievic gained around 30% of votes. However, the elections were faked. The support of the UDF candidate was very much understated. Peaceful protest actions against falsifications were dispersed. Another democratic candidate, Alaksandar Kazulin, was arrested.
At a meeting on the occasion of the Independence Day on March, 25 2006 the United Democratic Forces launched an all-national campaign For Freedom which was outlined in the UDF Strategy.
After the elections a number of important events took place, which threatened Belarus loss of independence. It was connected with the increase in gas prices by Russia, after which Lukashenka was actually given a choice of either losing his power or becoming dependent on Russia. The United Democratic Forces have set a new task for all conscientious citizens, which is to preserve the independence of Belarus.
